Idemitsu Australia has approximately 900 employees and 1 ,100 contractors across four locations in New South Wales and Queensland. Idemitsu is proud to play a proactive role in diversifying Australia's energy portfolio through mining, retail fuels, critical minerals and renewable initiatives. The unique fusion of Japanese and Australian culture means working with Idemitsu is unlike working at any other local energy company.

The aim of this scholarship is to support a student financially while encouraging them to pursue a career in the engineering / resources industry. The successful recipient of the ldemitsu Scholarship will be offered the opportunity of paid work in semester breaks. lt is the intention of the scholarship to build an ongoing relationship with the scholar with a view to them being considered for a career with ldemitsu Australia.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:

  • Be enrolled in any year of Bachelor of Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Honours) or a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) degree or Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours) or Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours) / Bache
  • Be enrolled full-time.
  • Demonstrate academic achievement by having a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 or higher in your current program.
  • Be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident (includes New Zealand Permanent Residents).
  • Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.

Required Documentation

Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.

  • A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you. This statement will cover all scholarships you are submitting for.
  • The application will include a free text question asking you to outline your interest in associated future opportunities with this donor and/or Industry partner.

Any applicant that does not submit the required documentation, including documentary evidence, will not be considered for selection.

As part of your application, you will need to agree to the terms and conditions regarding privacy and collection of personal information set out in the Declaration and Authority at the start of your application.


Benefit

The scholarship currently provides a total benefit of $10,000 to be paid as two lump sums, $5000 after Semester one and Semester two census dates.


Selection

Selection is a competitive process and will be based on assessment of the scholarship application and any required supporting documents, with reference to the eligibility criteria.

Selection will be made by the College of Engineering, Science and Environment Selection Committee which will consist of a minimum of three members chosen by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, College of Engineering, Science and Environment. Representatives from Infrabuild Steel will be invited to join the Selection Committee. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview with representatives from Infrabuild Steel and Infrabuild Wire.
