  • Eligibility & selection criteria

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

    • be an Indigenous Australian or a descendant from people indigenous to the South Pacific, including New Zealand and Australia
    • be enrolled in a course at the University of Melbourne
    • have met the conditions of any Indigenous Bursaries awarded to you previously (such as submission of scholarship reports)

    The status of indigenous Australians must be confirmed by the Murrup Barak Melbourne Institute for Indigenous Development.

    Selection criteria

    Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of the specific purpose of the scholarship, financial need, academic merit and other scholarships awarded to the applicant.

    • You must be enrolled in a course at the University of Melbourne.
    • This scholarship cannot be deferred.
    • You may be eligible to receive this scholarship while enrolled as a part-time student.
    • You must provide a Scholarship report by 31 July of each year that you receive the scholarship. The report may be made available to the donor of the Scholarship.
    • You must acknowledge the support of the Scholarship in any publication, advertisement, lecture, seminar, workshop, performance or exhibition issuing from the scholarship.

  • Application process

    Submit an online Student Financial Assessment form by the closing date.

  • When will I know the outcome?

    All applicants are notified of the outcome within 6 weeks of the relevant closing date.

    Arno Herpe Memorial Scholarship

    For descendants from people indigenous to the South Pacific, including New Zealand and Australia. Preference is given to students enrolled in the Melbourne School of Engineering.

    Bruce C Hartnett Bursary

    For coursework or research students.

    Edward J Darbyshire Scholarship

    For undergraduate students.

    Harold Mackrell Indigenous Student Scholarship

    For coursework or research students.

    Isabella Ina Oldham Scholarship

    For coursework or research students.

    Rotary District 9800 Aboriginal Vocation Bursary

    For undergraduate and graduate coursework students.

    Indigenous Science Bursary

    For students who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science (Extended).

    Lois Woodward Scholarship for Indigenous Australians

    For mature-age, female students.

    Truganini Scholarship

    For coursework or research students.

    Vera Mert-Ilijin Scholarship

    For female students.

    Harold Allan Webster Scholarship

    For students who a living at a University of Melbourne Residential College.

What are the benefits?

Between $750 and $15,000, depending on the specific scholarship.
