Supported by the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) , this newly created PhD scholarship will give the right applicant the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to men’s health and wellbeing. The PhD candidate will learn advanced health economic and econometric techniques and apply these to large national data from the Ten to Men: the Australian Longitudinal Study on Male Health to answer important health and social policy questions.
AIFS is the Australian Government’s key independent research body and advisor in family wellbeing. Their guiding purpose is to create and communicate knowledge to accelerate positive outcomes for families, and their research is directly used to inform government policy. Under this PhD opportunity, the right candidate will undertake a research placement at AIFS, which will offer a unique opportunity to develop research capabilities at the academia-policy nexus.

Scholarship and other financial support
Successful applicants will receive a scholarship covering tuition fees and a tax-free stipend of AU$35,000 per annum full-time rate. Additional financial support is available through research and teaching assistance work; students can earn up to AU$15,000 per annum.
PhD candidates also have opportunities for funded travel to attend conferences.
The Scholarship will commence in June 2023.
Who we are looking for
To be competitive for a scholarship, applicants must have a strong research background in economics, econometrics, health economics, statistics, or a relevant quantitative discipline, as well as a demonstrated research experience or interest in the relationship between social and economic factors and health. Applicants must have an excellent academic track record with a 4-year honours degree or 2-year master’s degree (with a strong research component). Applicants must be a domestic student.
