About the opportunity
The Head, Scholarships and Fees provides leadership, operational management, expert advice and guidance throughout the translation and implementation of strategy, policy and planning within Scholarships and Financial Support. They ensure effective general management of operational and administrative systems, processes and programs to meet these requirements in alignment with University policies and practices. They develop operational plans to guide the organisation and utilisation of the workforce and operational resources to meet the priorities and objectives of the University and to ensure student focused service delivery. They also manage operational budgets and prepare reports as required for SAS Management groups and other stakeholders.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- provide strategic advice and operational leadership to the Directors and Chief, throughout the implementation of the work area strategy and related business plans
- manage the implementation of strategic programs and projects for Scholarships and Financial Support Services ensuring the achievement of key objectives and results
- provide strategic advice on change management and input to key organisational initiatives which may have an impact on people and other resourcing requirements
- high level oversight of day to day operating activity for the business unit, including ensuring systems and staffing in place to undertake effective planning , delegating, coordinating, staffing, organising and decision making
- liaise with and establish effective working relationships with members of the work area, SAS, and central University stakeholders
- provide effective financial management support for SFSS, managing the implementation of relevant finance and accounting strategies, policies and procedures ensuring compliance with University policy and external regulatory and legislative requirements
- manage the efficient utilisation and deployment of resources for the work area
- manage communications and relationships with key stakeholders including faculty and division leaders, professional service units etc
- provide effective leadership and management guidance and support to the staff in SFSS including feedback, coaching and support for individual performance, career and talent development, to build an effective and high performing team
About you
- demonstrated experience in the supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff; experience in formal change management and proven ability to resolve a diverse range of HR issues
- demonstrated ability in leadership roles within Higher Education
- financial management experience and literacy, experience managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure
- proven management experience at a senior level, together with flexibility, capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and environments
- strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills together with effective leadership and people management skills.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
