(Level A) $89,610 to $96,007 or (Level B) $100,933 to $119,391 per annum plus an employer contribution of up to 17% superannuation may apply

This is fixed term, full-time position is available for 2 years. Flexible work arrangements can be negotiated with the right candidate

The SmartSat CRC-funded researcher will work to support the project “Trusted AI Frameworks for Change and Anomaly Detection in Observed ISR Patterns.”

We are seeking to appoint an applied mathematician/data scientist for 2 years commencing in 2021. The successful applicant will work within the School of Mathematical Sciences on an exciting project funded by the SmartStat CRC combining mathematical and statistical modelling and machine learning to provide trusted AI frameworks for detecting anomalous behaviour in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) data.

Join a multi-disciplinary team of mathematicians, statisticians and data science researchers to develop and investigate new approaches to apply machine learning an AI in the challenging space environment. Applications range from civilian to defence in finding patterns in domains such as maritime traffic, space situational patterns, and land use patterns.

To be successful at Level A you will need:

  • A PhD in applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability in conducting and publishing high quality research on one or more of the topics related to: machine learning, statistical modelling, satellite operations and related areas of science and engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in using computational software such as R, Python Julia and ability to work with large and complex data sets.
  • Ability to work in a team.

In addition to the above to be successful at Level B, you will also need:

  • Experience working for or in collaboration with industry.
  • A significant publication record in high-quality conferences or journals.
