Australia Awards Scholarship is provided by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and is available to students from developing countries to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities, including the University of Melbourne. 

  • Australia Awards usually open in February and close in April each year. 
  • International students can apply for this scholarship. 
  • Various study areas are applicable.  

In general, these are fully funded scholarships providing generous benefits: 

  • Full tuition fees, pre-course English language course (if required)
  • Return air travel 
  • Fieldwork travel for students undertaking research

Melbourne International Undergraduate Scholarship is offered to international students undertaking undergraduate study at the University of Melbourne.

  • All fields of study apply to this scholarship. 
  • The number of scholarships awarded is 1000. 
  • To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to be an international student who has applied for an undergraduate degree, or be a current student in an eligible undergraduate degree.

For commencing students this scholarship provides either a:

  • 100% fee remission for the 3 year duration of an undergraduate degree
  • 50% fee remission for the 3 year duration of an undergraduate degree, 
  • or $10,000 tuition fee remission in the first year of an undergraduate degree

The scholarship provides a fee remission of up to $10,000 for current students. 

No application is required. Students will be automatically considered for this award after applying for admission

Melbourne Chancellors Scholarship is awarded to talented international undergraduate students in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement during their Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate (IB) undertaken in Australia.

  • The scholarships provides 50% fee remission for the three year duration of an undergraduate degree. The scholarship is guaranteed to all eligible students.
  • Eligible students who have applied for admission to the University via VTAC will be automatically considered for the Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship.

The Graduate Research Scholarships are available to high-achieving students undertaking graduate research at the University of Melbourne. 

  • The total value of this scholarship is 100% fee remission and up to $110,000.
  • There are about 600 scholarships available. 
  • This scholarship is for a Masters by Research or doctoral degree at the University of Melbourne. 
  • All study areas are applicable. 
  •  Both Australian citizens and international students can apply.

Graduate Research Scholarships offer 2 types of benefits: stipend and fee offset scholarships and Fee offset scholarships.

The Stipend and fee offset scholarships type offers:

  • Full fee offset for up to two years for a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for a doctoral degree.
  • Living allowance of $32,400 per year pro-rata (2022 full-time study rate). The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave.
  • Relocation grants of up to $3000. 
  • Student health cover for international students

The Fee offset scholarships type offers a Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.

If you are a new student and have applied for a graduate research course by the application closing date for that course, you will be automatically considered for the Graduate Research Scholarships.

  • The total value of this scholarship is 100% fee remission and up to $110,000.
  • There are about 350 scholarships available. This scholarship is for a Masters by Research or PhD at the University of Melbourne. All study areas are applicable. 
  • Both Australian citizens and international students can apply. 

Melbourne Research Scholarship offers 3 types of benefits: Melbourne Research Scholarship Fee Offset, Melbourne Research Scholarship Stipend, and Melbourne Research Scholarship Stipend and Fee offset.

The Fee offset scholarships type offers a Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.

The Stipend scholarships type offers:

  • Living allowance of $32,400 per year pro-rata (2022 full-time study rate). The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave.
  • Relocation grants of up to $3000.

The Melbourne Research Scholarship Stipend and Fee offset type

  • Combines benefits of Stipend and Fee Offset scholarships. 

If you are a new student and have applied for a graduate research course by the application closing date for that course, you will be automatically considered for the Graduate Research Scholarships.

The Research Training Program Scholarship is provided by the Australian Commonwealth Government and the University of Melbourne, and offered to high-achieving domestic and international research students.

  • The total value of this scholarship is also 100% fee remission and up to $110,000.
  • There are about 350 scholarships available. 
  • This scholarship is for a Masters by Research or a PhD at the University of Melbourne. 
  • All study areas are applicable. 
  • Both Australian citizens and international students can apply. 

The Research Training Program Scholarship offer two types of benefits: Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset) and Research Training Program Scholarship (Stipend and Fee Offset).

Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset) offers a Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.

Research Training Program Scholarship (Stipend and Fee Offset) offers:

  • Full fee offset for up to two years for a Masters by Research degree or upto four years for a doctoral degree.
  • Living allowance of $32,400 per year pro-rata (2022 full-time study rate). The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave.
  • Relocation grants of up to $3000.

If you are a new student and have applied for a graduate research course by the application closing date for that course, you will be automatically considered for the Research Training Program RPT Scholarship.
