About this scholarship

Applications are now open for top-up scholarships for Higher Degree by Research students from First Nations backgrounds. These top-up scholarships will contribute additional funds to HDR candidates who will have another form of base scholarship like an Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship or equivalent.
 

Our approach aims to increase connections between researchers and diverse industry, regional and First Nations organisations and other groups involved in post-mining transitions.

  • You will join our growing cohort of HDR students from across Australia.
  • You have the opportunity for placement with a CRC TiME partner organisation to gain practical experience, expand knowledge and build your network.  
  • You’ll be welcome to join CRC TiME events, forums and activities.

Each scholarship will be equivalent to $60,000 total for a maximum of three years, including:

  • $10,000 per annum stipend to contribute to living costs for three years
  • $5,000 per annum operating budget to spend on equipment, conference fees, and so forth
  • $15,000 one-off payment for costs associated with a single research placement or divided over multiple shorter placements, up to the maximum of $15,000. This will allow you dedicated time for a site visit.


Scholarship Details

Generally, top up scholarships will be offered to individuals enrolled or about to enrol in a partner university (Curtin University; Federation University; Flinders University; Murdoch University; The University of Queensland; University of South Australia, The University of Western Australia). 
To be considered, you’ll be enrolling full time in a PhD, professional doctorate, MPhil, Master’s by research, or equivalent, and your proposed research will be in any area related to mine closure and post-mining transitions, including:

  • Social sciences
  • Humanities
  • Ecology
  • Geography
  • Geology
  • Health
  • Economics
  • Other fields relevant to mine closure and transition
