ECU Equity Scholarship

The ECU Equity Scholarships are intended to assist future and current undergraduate students from designated equity groups, with the costs associated with University study. Applications are sought from students from low socio-economic backgrounds, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander's, people with a disability or ongoing illness, people with significant caring responsibilities and those from rural or regional area of Australia. The scholarship offers a payment of up to $1,500 per semester for the duration of the course (Up to 4 years. Pro rata payment for part time study).

Eligibility guidelines

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be an Australian citizen, or be on an Australian permanent humanitarian/resident visa, or be a New Zealand citizen;
  • be from one or more equity groups - including but not limited to:
    • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students;
    • Students from rural, regional or remote areas of Australia who have relocated for the purpose of study;
    • Students with a registered disability or ongoing medical condition/illness;
    • Students with carer responsibilities (in receipt of carers payment through Centrelink);
    • Single parents; or
    • Students who don't have a parent or guardian, who has completed a bachelors or higher degree ("First in Family").
  • be able to demonstrate financial hardship;
  • be enrolled in an Undergraduate course at ECU;
  • be enrolled in a minimum of 30 credit points (usually 2 units);
  • not have previously received a full ECU Equity Scholarship; and
  • have an academic progression status of GREEN for current students.

Selection

Selection will be based on demonstrated need and personal circumstances.


How to apply

Application is made via the ECU Online Scholarship Application Portal.  Access to the Portal is available between application opening and closing dates.

Applicants will be required to provide a personal statement of no more than 500 words addressing the below;

  • Detail circumstances which have had a significant impact on your capacity to study and outline what you hope to achieve upon completion of your studies. You should also indicate how the ECU Equity Scholarship will help you achieve these goals.
