Destination Australia Scholarship

Destination Australia is an Australian Government funded scholarship program designed to support student to study in a regional area - you don’t need to be from a regional area, just planning to study full-time, on campus at one of CQUniversity’s regional campuses! Our regional campuses don’t only offer a great quality education, they also offer the companionship of a close-knit communities and opportunities to explore iconic natural wonders coupled with a lower cost of living. These scholarships (for Australian students only – please refer to Destination Australia International Scholarship if you are not an Australian resident) are open to full-time students commencing a new course of study on campus at CQUniversity Bundaberg, Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay, or Rockhampton.

Scholarship Value: $15,000 per year of study

Length of Scholarship: One Year (Diploma only)

To be eligible to be considered for a Destination Australia Scholarship (domestic students), applicants must:

  • Be enrolled or intending to enrol to commence study in Term 1, 2023
  • Be studying with a full time term study load of 18 credit points or more in Term 1, 2023
  • Be commencing a new course of study on campus at CQUniversity Bundaberg, Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay, or Rockhampton campus:
  • Be enrolled as at Census date Term 1, 2023

Preference will be given to students who are relocating from remote, interstate or metropolitan areas in order to study at a regional Queensland CQUniversity campus.



Applicants will be assessed based on an application form and a written submission of no more than 250 words addressing the following:

“How will a CQUniversity Scholarship assist with your studies?”



Ongoing Eligibility

In addition to the eligibility criteria, successful applicants must:

  • maintain residence and internal enrolment at a regional Queensland CQUniversity campus
  • maintain a term GPA of at least 4.0 for the duration of the course
  • maintain a term study load of at least 18 credit points or more (Term 1 and Term 2)

The Scholarships Team are unable to provide updates to students on the progress of their individual application until all assessments are completed.



Applications must include all necessary supporting documents. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will need to supply the following supporting documentation:

Complete a Scholarship Online Application Form, ensuring all supporting documentation is completed and attached as outlined here

  • For Current students (applicants who have already have a Student ID number) apply through MyCQU . You will need to log in with your student details.
  • For Future students (applicants who have applied or are intending to apply to study at CQUniversity but not yet received or accepted an offer) apply now.

Complete applications must be received by 10 am AEST on the closing date. Please ensure all supporting documents are attached to the application as incomplete applications will not be considered.

Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via their student email accounts only. Decisions are final.
