To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- have been born overseas
- have recently migrated to Australia
- be from a non-English speaking background
- have an Australian bank account
- be enrolling full-time in RMIT English Worldwide’s ELICOS Academic English Program EL000 with the course start date of 21/08/2023 and end date 22/09/2023
- be able to demonstrate circumstance/s which impact your ability to study such as:
- financial hardship
- having a long-term medical condition or disability
- experiencing personal/family/social difficulties
This scholarship is open to domestic and international students.
Preference may be given to students who are continuing into another RMIT program following completion of EL000.

David Phillips was born in South Africa in 1959 and immigrated to Melbourne with his parents, Norma and Julian, in 1962. He was a gifted scholar, an avid reader and a lover of languages. For more than 25 years, David taught English at RMIT Training. He was passionate about the life changing value of English language acquisition.
David passed away in 2020. This scholarship has been established by Lisa Phillips and Fiona Phillips to honour the work of their brother. It is intended to assist students from refugee, migrant or disadvantaged backgrounds to acquire English language skills at RMIT.
