CSIRO Next Generation Graduates Program

Australia has a deadline: 2032. The impending Olympics has highlighted the crucial importance of data in sport, and the critical lack of experts to manage and analyse these data. As part of the Australian Government’s Digital Economy Strategy and Artificial Intelligence Action Plan, the CSIRO, has developed the Next Generation Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Emerging Technologies (ET) graduates’ program. This Program aims to train a cohort of sports data scientists in high performance sports and para-sports.

The project:

Work in partnership with the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) to:

  • Identify relevant data for comprehensive performance prediction.
  • Determine the optimal data requirements for accurate performance prediction.
  • Assess the predictive power of limited known real data.

Applications are open to Australian and New Zealand citizens, and Australian permanent resident, PhD applicants from varied backgrounds including data science, computer science, mathematics and statistics, engineering, or other related fields.

Benefits of the scholarship include:
  • A CSIRO Next Generation Graduates Scholarship for three and a half years, with a value of $41,650.00 per annum, to support your living costs.
  • A fee-relief scholarship for up to four years.
  • Training budget: $5,000 (total) over the period of full candidature. Integrated training led by the CSIRO on AI and Emerging Technology.
