CQUniCares Travel Bursary

The CQUniCares Travel Bursary supports low SES students with the costs associated with travelling extended distances to attend compulsory residential schools and unpaid industry placement. This bursary may be used for transport or accommodation.

To be eligible to receive the CQUniCares Travel Bursary, successful applicants must:

  • Identified as low SES and able to demonstrate low personal or family income
  • be enrolled in an undergraduate course as the primary course of study in 2020:
    • Bachelor;
    • Associate Degree;
    • Advanced Diploma (higher education)
    • Diploma (higher education)
  • be required to attend either a residential school or industry placement requiring travel of more than 200km
  • have demonstrated satisfactory academic progress
  • be enrolled at Census date
  • be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or holder of an Australian Permanent Visa*
  • not have received a CQUniCares Travel Bursary before
  • not be receiving any other CQUniversity Scholarship in 2021

* Must have a permanent home address in Australia

Applicants will be assessed based on their low SES classification, regional/remoteness classification, and degree of disadvantage. Preference will be given to:

  • Students who have demonstrated low personal or family income
  • students with a medical condition/disability
  • students with significant carer responsibilities
  • students not living in close proximity to a CQUniversity campus
  • students enrolled in courses with high educational expenses

Academic progress will be taken into consideration for those applications who are continuing CQUniversity students.

Applicants will be assessed based on an application form, supporting documentation and personal statement demonstrating a genuine financial need for a CQUniCares Travel Bursary by addressing the following:

Ongoing Criteria

In addition to the ongoing eligibility requirements, the successful applicants must:

  • Maintain a minimum average GPA of 4.0 each term
  • Remain enrolled in the course as at Census date of each term (Terms 1 & 2)

As a donor scholarship recipient, you may be approached to assist with positively promoting the CQUniversity Scholarships program by sharing your experiences as a recipient through media and at events such as Open Day.

Payment of Scholarship

The successful applicant is required to enter their current financial institution details (banking details) into their MyCQU for payment to occur. This must be done prior to Census Date to avoid delays.

Applicants will need to supply the following supporting documentation:

1. Personal statement addressing the above selection criteria

  • Personal statement should also include any additional information that may assist with the assessment of your application and should demonstrate financial need. Please utilise the statement to explain your personal, financial, living or study situation and how it impacts on your ability to meet travel costs.

2. Quote/invoice to confirm the anticipated expenses of travel 

3. Evidence of income of applicant and

  • Income for their partners (if partnered)
  • Income for their parents (if under 22 and not deemed ‘independent’ by Centrelink)

Possible required documents for low income evidence:

  • Centrelink Income Statements (if applicable) –
    • for yourself
    • your partner if partnered or
    • parent/s if you are under 22 years of age

  • 3 x current consecutive payslips (if applicable) -
    • for yourself and/or
    • your partner if partnered or
    • parent/s if you are under 22 years of age
  • Latest Notice of Assessment or most recent Tax Return (If you or your partner are in receipt of business or investment income)
  • 3 months of all personal or business bank account statements

Please note: additional documents may be requested if low income is difficult to determine.

  • If eligible, an application form will be forwarded to your student email
  • Return form and supporting documentation to scholarships@cqu.edu.au
  • Please note a limited number of Bursaries are available. All Bursaries may be exhausted prior to the advertised closing date.

    A Bursary will only be offered where there is an applicant of sufficient merit. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications as soon as possible.
