The Chris Murray and Bridie Jean Butterfield Scholarship in Environmental Law was established with a gift from Dr Chris Murray and is awarded to students who are enrolling in the Master of Environmental Law and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances.

About the donor

Bridie Jean Butterfield was an accomplished lawyer with a deep sense of responsibility to care for our natural world. The Chris Murray and Bridie Jean Butterfield Scholarship was established to honour and advance her legacy. It is awarded to students who are enrolled in the Master of Environment Law and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances.

Benefits

This scholarship provides a living allowance of $20,000 for one year, paid in half-yearly instalments of $10,000 in April and September.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must have applied for and met entry requirements for the Master of Environmental Law in the year for which the scholarship is awarded.

Selection criteria

The scholarship is offered to the eligible candidate(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on their application.

In the interest of equitable distribution of scholarships, other scholarships or awards received from the University by applicants are considered.

Conditions

This scholarship is subject to the Melbourne Law School Awards Terms and Conditions and cannot be deferred. In addition, recipients must agree to the University sharing their name and course details with the donor of their scholarship and to provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.
