This bursary will not open for applications in 2024, however it is expected to be offered for Semester 1 2025.

In 2022, UniSQ will offer two Barry Fields Memorial Bursaries to support students commencing or continuing their studies in the Master of Learning and Teaching (MOLT, MELT, MPLT, MSLT) or Master of Education (MEDC/MEDF).

The Barry Fields Memorial Bursary was established by his sons, Mark and Tim, to remember Barry and honour his dedication and enthusiasm for teaching and education.

For almost 40 years up to his retirement in 2015, Barry was a lecturer, researcher, and research student mentor in a range of subjects within the UniSQ Faculty of Education. He had a passion for Special Education.

This bursary promotes his belief that everyone deserves access to and participation in education.


Value
Each bursary will have a maximum value of $2000 to be paid in Semester 1.
Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status
  • be commencing or continuing their studies at UniSQ in the Master of Learning and Teaching (MOLT, MELT, MPLT or MSLT) or Master of Education (MEDC/MEDF) in Semester 1 2022
    • commencing students – have a minimum of a sound level of academic achievement from prior studies
    • continuing students – have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 4.0 as at the release of results for Semester 2 2021
  • be enrolled in a minimum of 1 study unit in Semester 1 2022
  • be enrolled on-campus, external or online.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • submit a personal statement (500 words maximum) outlining:
    • What does teaching and learning mean to you?
    • How do you aim to develop your skills and knowledge in Education, both during the program and once you are finished?
    • What do you hope to achieve in a career in Education, particularly in Special Education, if this is your specialisation?
  • provide evidence of academic achievement as directed in the application process:
    • commencing students – post-secondary academic history (transcript of results) from prior studies      
    • continuing students – final GPA will be confirmed by the Scholarships Office as at the release of results for Semester 2 2021       
  • provide evidence of financial need as directed in the application process.

*Extra consideration will be given to applicants studying the Special Education specialisation.

Please Note:  If an applicant holds other UniSQ awarded scholarships, this may be taken into consideration in selection.
