Conditions
As an Australia Awards student you need to attend a five-week Introductory Academic Program (IAP). It’s a chance for you to get help with enrolment, learning skills, language expectations and our technology and teaching systems. You will receive program information to your student email.
Introductory Academic Program (IAP)
Attending the IAP will provide you with skills across several areas. You'll be able to practise these skills during the program through training, excursions and workshops.
University skills:
- practical information and advice about settling into life in Brisbane
- excursions to visit important city locations (such as shopping centres, pharmacies, libraries and religious centres)
- an introduction to how things works at QUT (including administrative systems, enrolment procedures and our student code of conduct).
Technical skills:
- formal computer training in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and email
- training to use information systems (like Advanced Information Retrieval Skills) for researchers.
Academic skills:
- general study skills (like time management and library skills)
- core academic skills (like note taking, reading and research, oral presentations and academic writing).
About the scholarship
The Australian Government offers scholarships for study, focusing on skills and leadership development. These goals of these awards are to:
- develop capacity and leadership skills so that individuals can contribute to development in their home country
- build people-to-people linkages at the individual, institutional and country levels.
