ARC project funded postdoctoral researcher to upgrade fossil fuels with solar energy.

In the past, fossil fuels upgrading processes (e.g. methane dry reforming and reverse water gas shift) are overly dependent on thermocatalysis, which need critical reaction conditions (e.g. high temperature and pressure). By contrast, photo mediated catalysis has evidenced to overcome their thermodynamic barriers at mild conditions. Therefore, solar energy can be stored into high value-added products. Based on this, the position is for a chemical engineer or a scientist to work on solar energy utilization and fossil fuels upgrading. Work includes synthesizing nanostructured catalysts, conducting various characterization, evaluating the performances in a series of catalytic processes (including photocatalysis, thermocatalysis and photothermal catalysis), and studying their reaction mechanism.
The successful applicant will be working with Prof Shaobin Wang and Dr Xiaoguang Duan’s research group at School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials, with a diverse range of scientists and engineers with expertise in material design and synthesis, catalysis and engineering for energy related applications.
To be successful you will need:
- A recent PhD in the field of Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Photochemistry, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge and demonstrated competence in synthesis of nanostructured materials and their application in solar energy utilization and fossil fuels upgrading.
- Knowledge and experience in various catalytic processes, including thermocatalysis, photocatalysis, photoelectrocatalysis and photothermal catalysis.
- A strong record of research in the field of Catalysis or Materials Engineering, as evidenced by a nationally recognised publication record.
- Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
