The ARC Centre of Excellence for Innovations in Peptide and Protein Science (CIPPS) strives to build a critical understanding of peptides and proteins to unleash the potential of these biomolecules for human benefit. We will discover nature’s untapped reservoir of peptides and proteins, decode their structures and functions, and develop enhanced synthetic technologies to address biology’s next grand challenge—the design of peptides and proteins for targeted scientific, agricultural, biotechnology, animal health and pharmaceutical applications.

ECU Food and Agricultural Proteomics is equipped with state-of-the-art proteomics facilities and recognised worldwide for vast experience in proteomics. In this role, the successful applicant will conduct PhD research supported by the team at ECU, but aligned with researchers at University of Queensland, University of Sydney, Queensland University of Technology, ANU, Monash University and CSIRO.

The School of Science is committed to undertaking high quality research and are looking for two (2) full time PhD students who can demonstrate excellent research capability.

Eligibility guidelines

Applicants should have a high level of achievement, including an Honours degree, Masters by Research or equivalent. The degree could be in a range of relevant fields, such as the chemical or biological sciences. Applicants should also have a strong interest in food or agriculture.

To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must:

  • be an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, or hold permanent Australian resident status;
  • meet the PhD admission requirements at ECU
  • be able to demonstrate strong background and competencies in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Peptide/Protein Science, Mass Spectrometry, Proteomics; and
  • be enrolled by January 2022

Stipend

The successful applicants will receive a scholarship of $28,106 per year for 3 years pending compliance with milestone and candidacy requirements.
