The total value of the scholarship will be $30,000 p.a. A team of international experts, led by Associate Professor Kypros Kypri, has received funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) to conduct a randomised controlled trial of electronic alcohol screening and brief intervention (e-SBI) for hospital outpatients. The study aims to determine the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of e-SBI for hospital outpatients who screen positive for hazardous or harmful drinking. The aim of the doctoral project, which will focus on the sub-group of participants who may have alcohol dependence, is to determine whether eSBI can improve uptake of specialist care among non-treatment seeking outpatients with possible alcohol dependence.
