Project
The Airport Pavement Research Program (APRP) performs industry funded research into a broad range of topics associated with airport pavement engineering and science. UniSC has two scholarships available for 2022-2025. The scholarships jointly aim to improve the understanding of management and maintenance of airport pavements, specifically the life cycles of asphalt pavement surfaces.
Interested applicants can apply for one or both scholarships. Please nominate a preference for your topic in your covering letter. Applicants can also choose to nominate their own topic related to airport pavement engineering, but acceptance of alternate topics will be at the discretion of UniSC’s academic supervisor. Applicants are encouraged to discuss any alternate research topics with UniSC’s nominated point of contact (Dr Greg White ) prior to submitting their application.
APRP Scholarship 1 – Runway Friction
This scholarship will allow a domestic or international student study for a PhD in engineering by researching the evolution of runway friction and the factors that affect it. This will likely include laboratory testing, field work on airports and desk-top analysis of existing data sets. The work will be presented in a thesis, and it is expected that multiple journal and conference publications will flow from the research findings.
APRP Scholarship 2 – Asphalt Ageing
This scholarship will allow a domestic or international student study for a PhD in engineering by researching the calibration of accelerated laboratory asphalt and binder ageing protocols to field ageing. This will likely include laboratory testing, field work on airports and desk-top analysis of existing data sets. The work will be presented in a thesis, and it is expected that multiple journal and conference publications will flow from the research findings.
Ideal Candidate
A motivated individual that can work with minimal supervision to achieve high quality research outputs in a professional manner. With high English proficiency and sound written communication skills, an engineering graduate with a masters or other research experience in a related field is highly desirable.
