Access Scholarships are funded by the Department of Education’s Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Programme (HEPPP). HEPPP aims to ensure that Australians from low SES backgrounds who have the ability to study at university get the opportunity to do so. Students offered an Access Scholarship for First Year Undergraduates may undertake any undergraduate degree course at Swinburne.
The Access Scholarship for First Year Undergraduates is open to students who are commencing their first year of study in 2024 (preference will be given to commencing in Semester 1, 2024) and are able to demonstrate one of the following:
- Experiencing financial or personal hardship or low socio-economic status
- A current or previous permanent humanitarian visa holder
- Care Leavers from Australian State or Foster Care
- Have relocated from a rural or regional area in order to study
Please note: Previous recipients of any type of Swinburne Access Scholarship are not eligible to apply for any other Swinburne Access Scholarship.
Courses eligible
Any undergraduate course offered by Swinburne University of Technology.
Eligibility / selection criteria
To be eligible for the Access Scholarship for First Year Undergraduates, applicants must:
- Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
- be a commencing first year Swinburne student in 2024 (preference given to commencing in Semester 1, 2024)
- enrolled full-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
- Experiencing financial or personal hardship or low socio-economic status (evidence may include Centrelink statements, Health Care Card or ATO Payment Summary)
- A current or previous permanent humanitarian visa holder
- Care Leavers from Australian State or Foster Care
- Have relocated from a rural or regional area in order to study

Value
This scholarship is valued at $5,000 for one year only, paid bi-annually.
