Description/Applicant information

The SCAA Memorial Trust Scholarship (Scholarship) has been developed between the Surface Coatings Association Australia Inc. and Curtin University to support and encourage students' interests in areas relating to coatings.

The Surface Coatings Association Australia Inc. (SCAA) is a not-for-profit membership organisation which aims to further the understanding and development of the technology of Surface Coatings in Australia. SCAA is not an industry body but is made up of individual members from within these industries. SCAA Memorial Trust for Education and Research was set up in 1995 to foster projects of an educational and/or research nature considered worthy of support by the Association.

Value

The Scholarship will provide the following support for up to a maximum of one year:

• A total of $5,000 paid as a cash stipend of $2,500 per semester
• Possible mentorship opportunities 

The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards education related expenses.

Eligible courses

All undergraduate Honours degrees that has research associated with coatings.

Double degrees considered.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for apply for the Scholarship:

• Domestic student (Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian or New Zealand citizen)
• Enrolled full-time (minimum 75 credits) in the Honours year of an eligible degree in semester 1, 2026
• Undertaking a research project that relates to coatings (for example polymers, pigments, corrosion or adhesion problems or rheology). The research involved can relate to the raw materials for coatings (manufacture and development), or into the use of coatings (application, characterisation, testing, in-service performance and environmental aspects)
• Not in receipt of any other scholarships that are from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose

Application process

Step 1: Access application form

• Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
• If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for this scholarship, as well as all equity and merit scholarships, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

• Complete the application form online
• Application form can be saved at any point of the process
• Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
• Applying for a scholarship - See guidelines and tips (including the interview preparation) on how to complete your application

Step 3: Submit

• Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
• Incomplete applications will not be assessed
• Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

• Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

• Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
  • Responses to questions in application form
  • Relevance and quality of research proposal
  • Interview performance (for shortlisted applicants)

Step 6: Shortlist for Interview

• Shortlisted applicants will be sent an interview date and time via their student email in late March to early April.
• Shortlisted applicants must be available for the designated interview time (25 March - 22 April).

Step 7: Outcome

• Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified of their outcome via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) within 9 weeks of closing date

Step 8: Acceptance

• Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the lapse date

Please note:

• Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

• Remain enrolled in initial course of study
• Maintain a full time study load of at least 75 credit points each study period at Curtin University
• Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50 each semester
• Not change topic of their thesis
• Not be in receipt of any other scholarship from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose
