About this scholarship

The Tyree Foundation has established scholarships for engineering students across all Australian States. The scholarships are for female Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, to provide them support throughout their final 2 years of studies.

The Sir William Tyree Scholarship in Engineering will provide the following support for the expected duration of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits per semester):

  • A total value of up to $37,500 paid as an initial cash stipend of $7,500, and then $7,500 per semester for two years. The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.

(Double degrees will be not considered eligible)


Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for the Sir William Tyree Scholarship in Engineering: 

  • Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent resident, Permanent Humanitarian visa, and New Zealand citizen
  • Identify as female
  • Must have a full-time enrolment of at least 75 credits in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Curtin University in semester 1, 2024
  • Must be commencing third year of studies in Semester 1 2024
  • Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 50
  • Demonstrated financial hardship and low socioeconomic status


Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Equity Scholarship Program " application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all equity scholarships that you are eligible for in this round.
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for all other scholarships (equity and merit scholarships) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the 'Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program'.

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the Applying for scholarships link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted.

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications for the Sir William Tyree Scholarship in Engineering will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Written statement of up to 500 words detailing educational disadvantage
    • Financial hardship and socioeconomic status
    • Performance in interview (if required)
    • Preference given to rural/regional and/or Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students 
    • Passion for the course

Step 6: Shortlist for Interview (Only applies if an interview is required)

  • Shortlisted applicants will be sent an interview date and time via student email in late February.
  • Shortlisted applicants must be available for the designated interview time
  • Interviews (if necessary) will be held 8-17 April 2024

Step 7: Outcome

  • All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date.

Step 8: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline.

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need and merit


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Maintain full-time enrolment (at least 75 credit points) in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) each study period at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65 each study period
  • Pass all units attempted each study period
