About this scholarship

The Primero Scholarship is designed to support and nurture exceptional students that demonstrate leadership and community engagement; it is an incredible opportunity for aspiring Engineers to receive financial assistance during their studies and recognition for their dedication to their specialised field of study, where their leadership skills and independence are not only valued, but also honed.

The Primero Scholarship will provide the following support for up to a maximum of three years (based on a full-time enrolment of 100 credits per semester):

  • A total value of up to $15,000 paid as a cash stipend of $2,500 per semester. The amount may be used at the recipient's discretion for educational expenses.


Scholarship Details

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Construction Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering)

Double degrees with any of the above courses will be considered eligible. 


Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Primero Scholarship:

  • Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder;
  • Enrolled full-time (100 credits) in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of studies in an eligible course at the Curtin University
    • Double degree students in their 5th year of study are eligible 
  • Have a minimum Course Weighted Average (CWA) of 65


Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student, if you would like to be considered for all other scholarships (both equity as well as merit scholarships) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ page on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Academic merit
    • Demonstrated independence and leadership
    • Active civic engagement in the Curtin community, or program of study

Step 6: Outcome

  • All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
  • Maintain a full-time (100 credits) enrolment in an eligible course per semester at the Curtin Perth campus
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65 each semester
  • Pass all units attempted
  • Recipients may also seek other scholarship opportunities whilst in receipt of the Primero Scholarship
