Value

The McDowall Affleck Engineering Scholarship will provide the following support for up to two years (based on a full-time enrolment of 100 credits):

• A total value of up to $7,500 paid as a cash stipend of $1,875 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses
• Salaried internship opportunity in honours year (to contribute towards Exposure to Professional Engineering Practices (EPEP))

Scholarship Details
Eligible courses

Enrolled in the third year of studies in the following:

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Construction Engineering) (Honours)

OR

Enrolled in the fourth year of studies in the following:

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Construction Engineering) (Honours), Bachelor of Commerce*
  • *Applicants enrolled in this double degree must have completed 700 credits of their course to be considered eligible to apply
• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Construction Engineering) (Honours), Bachelor of Science (Science) (Mining)

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the McDowall Affleck Engineering Scholarship:

• Australian or New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder
• Enrolled full-time (minimum 75 credits) in the penultimate year of an eligible course in semester 1, 2024
• Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 65
• Not in receipt of any other scholarships that are externally funded and/or for the same purpose

Application process

Step 1: Access application form

• Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
• If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for this scholarship (as well as all equity and merit scholarships), we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

• Complete the application form online
• Application form can be saved at any point of the process
• Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
• Applying for a scholarship - See guidelines and tips (including interview preparation) on how to complete your application

Step 3: Submit

• Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
• Incomplete applications will not be assessed
• Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

• Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

• Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
  • Responses to questions in application form
  • Academic merit
  • Interview performance (for shortlisted applicants)
  • Preference will be given to students within the following postcode ranges: 6050 - 6115

Step 6: Shortlist for Interview

• Shortlisted applicants will be sent an interview date and time via their student email in late March to early April
• Shortlisted applicants must be available for the designated interview time (early to mid-April)
• Unsuccessful applicants will be sent a notification via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS)

Step 7: Outcome

• Successful and unsuccessful interview applicants will be notified of their outcome via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of closing date

Step 8: Acceptance

• Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

• Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

• Remain enrolled in initial course of study
• Maintain a full-time enrolment of at least 75 credits per semester at Curtin University
• Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65 each semester
• Pass all units attempted each semester
• Not apply for or receive any other scholarships that are externally funded and/or for the same purpose whilst receiving the McDowall Affleck Scholarship
