About this scholarship

The Curtin Healthy Digital Child team has the goal to enhance the lives of children and their families by supporting technology use in ways which are beneficial to children’s physical health. We are offering PhD scholarships funded by the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child.

Projects will involve different research methods and designs in research areas:

  • Community perspectives on children’s technology use, and how these influence practices and child health and development.
  • Patterns and correlates of technology use by children and families.
  • Physical impacts of screen and non-screen digital technologies.
  • Better methods to capture children’s technology use, postures and movements.

This scholarship provides a living stipend of $36,500 p.a. based on full-time studies, for up to a maximum of 3.5 years.

Must meet the minimum academic entry requirement for the Doctor of Philosophy program by Curtin University and English proficiency IELTS level 7.


The successful candidate(s) will have:

  • First class or upper second-class honours, and/or Masters degree by research in a field relevant to the project (e.g. Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Sports and Exercise Sciences, Science and Engineering) OR equivalent clinical research experience.

Additionally, the applicant should preferably have experience with:

  • working with children;
  • posture/physical activity research;
  • sophisticated numeric data analysis.

  • A brief covering letter (no more than 2 sides A4) that addresses the eligibility criteria. The letter should explain why you are interested in the project and how your skills, attributes and experience make you a good candidate for this scholarship.
  • Applicants are encouraged to provide a short sample of academic writing (e.g., excerpt of Honours or Masters thesis or a published article).


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must enrol in the PhD program in full-time study mode and meet the relevant milestone requirements for a PhD (e.g., complete their milestone 1 within 6 months of enrolment).
