About this scholarship

An exciting opportunity exists to undertake a PhD Scholarship at the Western Australia School of Mines: Minerals, Energy, and Chemical Engineering of Curtin University.

This High Degree Research (HDR) scholarship is available for one or two outstanding candidates to research, broadening the net present value (NPV) of surface mining projects and their assets for mine closure and post-mining transition through the optimisation of strategic decision-making, including diverse stakeholder groups with varying perspectives.

The candidates must know about mining engineering, mine planning and optimisation, sustainable mining practices, and/or mineral economics. They will be expected to develop a multi-criteria optimisation framework as a transparent approach to incorporating the differing perspectives of value, risk, and timeframes held by different stakeholders into an objective function that honours tried and tested optimisation processes.

The candidates will be enrolled through Curtin University and located either at the Bentley Campus of Curtin University in Perth or at the Kalgoorlie Campus of WASM:MECE in Goldfields, Western Australia. The program will allow the candidate to gain hands-on experience and develop and grow a professional network and working relationships with a diverse multidisciplinary team of scientists.
