About this scholarship

The Curtin Honours Grant is to assist students undertaking an honours year at Curtin University in semester 1, 2024 who are from a low socioeconomic background and experiencing financial hardship.

The Curtin Honours Grant will provide the following support (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits):  

  • Cash payments of $2,000 per semester for up to one year. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses


Scholarship Details

Please refer below for the courses eligible for the Honours Grant in each faculty.

Curtin School of Business

  • All Commerce Honours courses except those which are embedded within your course

Health Science

  • Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science) Honours
  • Bachelor of Science (Public Health) Honours

Humanities

  • All Humanities Honours courses except those which are embedded within your course

Science

  • All Science Honours courses except those which are embedded within your course

** Embedded bachelor honours degrees typically comprise an honours stream equivalent to one year of full-time study, which is undertaken during the last year (or two) of study. If you are unsure whether your course has an Honours program embedded, please contact Curtin Connect on 1300 222 888, Monday-Friday 8.30am-4.30am.


Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Curtin Honours Grant:

  • Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, the holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa or New Zealand citizen
  • Enrolled in an eligible honours course at Curtin University in semester 1, 2024
  • Not hold any other scholarship(s)
  • Be able to demonstrate financial hardship and low socioeconomic background


Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Equity Scholarship Program " application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all scholarships that you are eligible for in this round.
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student, if you would like to be considered for all other scholarships (both equity as well as merit scholarships) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Demonstration of financial hardship
    • Socioeconomic background

Step 6: Outcome

  • Outcome will be sent via the Scholarships Channel within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date
  • All unsuccessful and successful applicants will be notified

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need
  • Scholarship will commence from the semester of study for which the scholarship was awarded
  • Scholarship is not transferable to another major, course or university


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet ALL of the following:

  • Maintain an enrolment in each study period at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50 each study period
  • Fail no more than one unit each study period
  • Not be in receipt of any other scholarship from the same funding source
