About this scholarship

The purpose of the Arup Women in Engineering Scholarship is to empower and assist female students pursuing an engineering degree by reducing financial barriers and offering practical learning experiences as well as mentoring opportunities in collaboration with Arup Australia.

The Arup Women in Engineering Scholarship will provide the following support for up to a maximum of four years (based on a full-time enrolment of 100 credits):

  • A total value of up to $40,000 paid as a cash stipend of $5,000 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses
  • Guaranteed paid vacation work with Arup Australia


Scholarship Details

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

Recipients must enrol into one of the below majors to retain the scholarship from second year onward:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Chemical Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil and Construction Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Computer Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Industrial and Systems Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechatronic Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Software Systems Engineering)

Double degrees will not be considered eligible.


Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Arup Women in Engineering Scholarship:

  • Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder
  • Identify as female
  • Commencing a full-time enrolment of at least 75 credits in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Curtin University in semester 1, 2024
  • Achieve a minimum ATAR of 80 (which may include the StepUp bonus)


Application process

Step 1: Access online application form

  • Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for all other scholarships (both equity as well as merit scholarships) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the Applying for scholarships link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, once your application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Receipt of an offer of a place into an eligible undergraduate degree at Curtin University in 2024
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Academic merit
    • Preference will be given to students with barriers to education (e.g. educational gap, low socioeconomic background etc.)

Step 6: Outcome

  • Outcome will be sent via the email address listed through TISC or your direct Curtin course application after main round course offers (all successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified)

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must return acceptance documents by the deadline specified in the terms and conditions
  • Deferral of this scholarship not permitted

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Maintain a full-time enrolment of at least 75 credits in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) foundation year for 2024
  • Enrol full-time (minimum 75 credits) into an eligible major from second year onward at Curtin University:
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Chemical Engineering)
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil and Construction Engineering)
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Computer Engineering)
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Industrial and Systems Engineering)
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical Engineering)
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechatronic Engineering)
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Software Systems Engineering)
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 60 each semester
  • Pass all units attempted each semester
  • Paid vacation work is optional and the recipient is highly encouraged to participate if offered
