About this scholarship

The Study Tour is now open for applications. We encourage any Indigenous student or professional considering postgraduate study overseas to apply.

Aurora’s Study Tour is run as two separate multi-week visits. The US Study Tour is held in February/March and includes visits to Columbia, Harvard, and New York University. The 2025 USA Study Tour will take place from 15th February – 7th March 2025 (subject to change and please allow a day on each side for domestic travel).

Scholarship Details

Student will be considered fromt the following study disciplines:

  • Agriculture Environmental and Related Studies
  • Architecture and Building
  • Creative Arts
  • Education
  • Engineering and Related Technologies
  • Food
  • Health
  • Information Technology
  • Management and Commerce
  • Mixed Field Programmes
  • Natural and Physical Sciences
  • Society and Culture


To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Have graduated from their first degree, or have completed at least 2 years of their undergraduate degree
  • Have a distinction average or on a pathway to an Honours degree
  • Have a strong interest in postgraduate study overseas
  • Be willing to act as an ambassador of the program while overseas
  • Be available for the Study Tour Symposium in Sydney, NSW for 2nd July 2024 – 4th July 2024 (please allow a day each side for travel)

Some interesting facts

Over thirteen years on, the Aurora Study Tour has: 

  • Provided opportunities for over 205 talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to gain insights into the experience of undertaking postgraduate study at premier overseas institutions;
  • Seen 60% of participants go on to apply to study at the universities visited, with 93% being accepted.

To date, we have had five Curtin University alumni on the Study Tour, including Chloe D'Souza who has been awarded the 2020 Bob Hawke John Monash Scholarship to study a Master of Laws at Harvard.
