About this scholarship

The Curtin University Solider On Scholarship has been developed by Soldier On, in conjunction with Curtin University, to support veterans transitioning to civilian life. 

Soldier On is a not-for profit veteran support organisation delivering a range of services to enable serving and ex-serving veterans and their families to thrive.

The Curtin University Solider On Scholarship will provide the following support for the normal expected duration of the undergraduate degree (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits per semester): 

  • Student Contribution Fees (excluding Student Services Amenities Fee)

Fees will be paid directly to the student fee account prior to the census date relevant to each study period.

The scholarship does not cover the Student Services & Amenities Fees (SSAF) and Ancillary or incidental fees


Scholarship Details

All undergraduate courses from the: 

  • Faculty of Health Sciences (excluding the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery)
  • Faculty of Science and Engineering
  • Faculty of Humanities

 

Online attendance mode is permitted (excluding OUA).


Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Soldier On Scholarship: 

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder
  • Must be a new student commencing studies in Semester 2 2023, with 0 credits completed towards their current course of study (excluding CRL)
  • Must be a transitioning or separated veteran commencing studies in a relevant scholarship offer year
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate course at Curtin (excluding Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery)
  • Not be in receipt of any other scholarship; and be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported place at Curtin University

Please note:

  • Online study is possible if the course is available in this study mode (this excludes OUA)
  • Applicants must make a course application before applying for a scholarship
  • Scholarship offers cannot be deferred but a course offer can be deferred. If an applicant defers a course offer, they will have to re-apply for a scholarship the following year


Application process

Step 1: Access online application form

  • Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • You must make a Curtin University course application prior to applying for the Curtin University Soldier On Scholarship.

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the Applying for scholarships link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, once your application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Receipt of an offer of a place into an undergraduate degree at Curtin University in 2023
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Academic merit
    • Proof of military service
    • Two professional references

Step 6: Outcome

  • Outcome will be sent via the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, or your Curtin email address (all successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified)

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must return acceptance documents by the deadline specified in the terms and conditions
  • Deferral of this scholarship is NOT permitted (details included in scholarship terms and conditions)


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Maintain a full-time enrolment (100 credits) each semester in the course that they received the offer of the scholarship at Curtin.
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65.
  • Pass all units attempted.
  • Not receive any other continuing scholarships whilst receiving the Soldier On Scholarship.
