PhD Scholarship Opportunity

Are you interested in understanding how humans learn to make critical decisions in complex work systems? Do you want to be at the forefront of use-inspired basic research that shapes industries like aviation and defence? Curtin University’s Future of Work Institute (FOWI) is offering a 3-year scholarship for a motivated individual to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy.

About the Project:

As a PhD student, you will contribute to a project focused on human learning and decision making within the context of complex workplace decisions. This research aims to develop models of how humans learn about automated advice, and of the impact of learning on remembering and executing planned actions. Further, the research aims to identify factors that pose risks to learning and adaptation in high-stakes industries.

This scholarship provides a living stipend of $32,250.00 per annum pro rata indexed, based on full-time studies, for up to a maximum of 3.5 years.

Eligible courses

Any student eligible to study a PhD focused on Cognitive Psychology. 

Eligibility criteria

Applicants are required to demonstrate a capacity to carry out independent research and have adequate training and ability. Generally, this may be a master degree or bachelor degree with first or upper second class honours. See the Section 3.2.1 of the Curtin HDR admission policy for detailed information. We encourage EOIs from students who are close to obtaining an appropriate qualification (e.g., in their last semester of a master or honours degree).

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must maintain an academic status of ‘good standing’, meet their project milestones, and participate in the recommended learning and engagement activities conducted by the Future of Work Institute for Higher Degree Research students.
