About this scholarship

The AusIMM Education Endowment Fund (EEF) Scholarships were established to support the future leaders of the minerals industry through their higher education studies.

An AusIMM EEF annual Scholarship prepares students for a successful career in the minerals industry through:

  • an intensive field trip
  • career mentoring with industry professionals
  • financial support during their studies


  • Current Students

  • Faculty of Science & Engineering
    • Western Australian School of Mines (WASM)

  • Undergraduate

  • Australian Citizen
  • Australian Permanent Resident

  • Merit Based

Undergraduate scholarships packages are valued at approximately $20,000 each with each recipient receiving:

  • Significant financial support of up to $11,000 annually for the duration of their studies. The recipient of the Sir Frank Espie/Rio Tinto Leadership Award receives a stipend of $15, 000 per annum
  • Career building mentoring with an industry professional valued at $5,000
  • Opportunity to participate in a one-week intensive field trip valued at $4,000 to a mineral-rich region of Australia
  • Support to develop career enhancing personal and professional skills

  • Preference will be given to applicants who are studying an AusIMM recognised undergraduate degree at an Australian University. Students studying non-recognised degrees must give evidence that their degree is relevant to the industry (i.e. a Chemical Engineering student majoring in metallurgy).   • Scholarship holders must be Australian citizens or students with a permanent resident visa status. Full fee paying international students are ineligible to make an application under the scheme.
  • Applicants must clearly demonstrate their intent to work in the industry, evidence industry related work experience and hold current membership of the AusIMM.

    Enrolment Requirements

    Recipients must meet all of the following:

    • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
    • Maintain a full time study load of at least 100 credit points each study period at Curtin University
    • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65 each study period
    • Pass all units attempted each study period
