About this scholarship

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship in Postgraduate Psychology supports an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student to complete either a Master of Psychology (Professional) or Master of Clinical Psychology at Curtin University and encourages the recipient to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities post graduation.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship in Postgraduate Psychology will provide the following support for up to a maximum of one year (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits per semester):

  • A total value of up to $18,962.78 paid as a cash stipend of $9,481.39. The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered eligible for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship in Postgraduate Psychology:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Enrolled full-time (100 credits) in the first semester of an eligible course in semester 1, 2023


Application process

Step 1: Access online application form

  • Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program " application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all scholarships that you are eligible for in this round.

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the Applying for scholarships link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, once your application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Academic merit
    • Responses to questions in application form
      • Passion for course/vision for career
      • How the scholarship will help support you to progress to graduation
    • Preference will be given to students who have a passion for returning to a regional and remote area to help and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities

Step 6: Outcome

  • Successful and unsuccessful interview applicants will be notified of their outcome via the Official Communications Channel within approximately two weeks of their interview date

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Maintain a full-time enrolment (100 credits) in an eligible course per semester at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50
  • Pass all units attempted per semester

Recipients may also be in receipt of/seek other scholarship opportunities whilst in receipt of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship in Postgraduate Psychology.
