About this scholarship
The Rowe Scientific Metallurgy Scholarship has been developed by Rowe Scientific Pty Ltd in conjunction with Curtin University to encourage and support students who have chosen to study metallurgy at Curtin University (Western Australian School of Mines).
Rowe Scientific Ply Ltd has been supplying the scientific community and laboratories around Australia since 1987. They wish to give back to the community through supporting technical people who are studying in areas that will support the industries that have supported Rowe Scientific, and therefore wish in this case to support students who major in Metallurgy.

The Rowe Scientific Metallurgy Scholarship will provide the following support for up to a maximum of three years (based on full-time enrolment of 100 credits per semester):
- A total value of $15,000 paid as a cash stipend of $2,500 per semester. The stipend may be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards payment of their course fees, or for other education-related expenses such as text books and/or general living expenses.
Scholarship Details
The following courses at Curtin University (WASM):
- Bachelor of Science (Extractive Metallurgy)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering)
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for a Rowe Scientific Metallurgy Scholarship:
- Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or New Zealand citizen
- Enrolled full-time (100 credits) in an eligible course at Curtin University (Bentley or Kalgoorlie campus) in semester 1, 2022
- Commencing either:
- 1st year of Bachelor of Science (Extractive Metallurgy)
- 2nd year of Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering)
- Minimum course weight average (CWA) of 65
- Enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place
- Not currently in receipt of an on-going externally funded scholarship
- Willingness to participate in the following:
- Provide a photograph to accompany the scholarship recipient story
- Hand written thank you note to donor
- Meeting with the donor (facilitated by University Advancement)
- Impact report outlining how the scholarship has helped you with your studies and what the scholarship means to you
Application process
Step 1: Access application form
- Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
Step 2: Complete
- Complete the application form online
- Application form can be saved at any point of the process
- Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
- Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ page on the scholarships website
Step 3: Submit
- Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
- Incomplete applications will not be assessed
- Once submitted, application status will change to submitted
Step 4: Receipt
- Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted
Step 5: Assessment
- Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
- Responses to questions in application form
- Academic merit
- In case of applicants are equally ranked on their merit assessment, preference will be given to the following applicants:
- Rural, regional or remote areas of Australia; and/or
- Underprivileged
Step 6: Outcome
- All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date
Step 7: Acceptance
- Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline
Please note:
- Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit (and need if applicable)
- Scholarship will commence from the semester of study for which the scholarship was awarded
- Scholarship is not transferable to another major, course or university
- The award and continuity of the scholarship is subject to receipt by Curtin of the scholarship funding from the scholarship sponsor
Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet all of the following:
- Remain enrolled in initial course of study
- Maintain a full time study load of at least 100 credit points each semester at Curtin University
- Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65 each semester
- Fail no more than one unit per semester
