About this scholarship
Description/Applicant information

The PhD scholarship is funded through Curtin University as a support package for a research grant entitled: Dandjoo Waanginy, Dandjoo Walbarniny (talking together, healing together): Co-designing Aboriginal digital health solutions . The purpose of the scholarship is to provide a full-time PhD stipend to enable doctoral research that aligns with the following grant aims:

1) use research co-design frameworks to increase the understanding of the experiences, preferences and values of Aboriginal people in relation to the use of digital technologies;

2) identify the challenges of uptake of digital technologies for Aboriginal end users, and;

3) co-design, implement and evaluate digital technology solutions that are culturally secure and support Aboriginal people to live healthy lives in their communities.

Specific PhD topics are negotiable but must align with the aims of the Dandjoo Waanginy, Dandjoo Walbarniny research grant. Preference will be given to eligible candidates whose research interests and background most closely aligns with the project aims.

Eligible courses

Domestic full-time postgraduate students who meet the criteria for admission to a PhD at Curtin University, with an excellent academic record in a relevant field, and interest in the topic.

Eligibility criteria

• A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline requiring the completion of a publicly available thesis or research project to an acceptable standard; OR a Bachelor’s degree with first class honours
• Prior studies in a health sciences field relevant to the PhD topic.
• Strong interest in Indigenous healthcare research.
• Familiarity with, and strong interest in, working with Indigenous community around research co-design and/or digital health interventions, and/or translation to policy.
• Capacity for full-time enrolment
• Well-developed communication and computer skills.

Application process

Please ensure you include the followings:

(1) a current CV (including publications);

(2) academic transcripts for all degrees held;

(3) A brief covering letter (no more than 2 sides A4) that addresses the eligibility criteria. The letter should include a clear statement about your research interests, explain why you are interested in the project, and how your skills, attributes and experience make you a good candidate for the award;

(4) the names of two referees, at least one being an academic referee.

This will allow initial consideration of suitability for enrolment into a PhD and for the award of the scholarship. Where applicable an interview will be arranged. Applications will remain open until the PhD scholarship has been awarded.

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must achieve an academic status of 'good standing' at each Annual Report for retention of their scholarship.
