2022 CQUniCares Accommodation Scholarship

The CQUniCares Accommodation Scholarship assists students from low SES backgrounds with expenses associated with relocating for the purpose of undertaking internal studies at CQUniversity Rockhampton or Mackay campuses.

Scholarship Value: Approximately $7,000-$10,000

Length of Scholarship: 1 (one) Year

To be eligible to receive the CQUniCares Accommodation Scholarship successful applicants must:

  • be identified as living in a low SES area (LSES criteria specific to level of education, job skill and employment)
  • be enrolled or intending to enrol in an undergraduate course as the primary course of study in Term 1, 2022:
    • Bachelor;
    • Associate Degree;
    • Advanced Diploma
    • Diploma (higher education)
  • be relocating to live on-campus at either Rockhampton or Mackay due to the course not being available by distance
  • be studying with a minimum term study load of 12 credit points or more
  • be enrolled at Census date in Term 1, 2022
  • be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or holder of an Australian Permanent Visa*
  • not be receiving any other CQUniversity scholarship of similar or higher value

Preference will be given to applicants who are able to demonstrate low personal or family income.




Applicants will be assessed based on an application form and a written submission of no more than 500 words addressing the following:

  • Career goals and how the scholarship will assist you in achieving your educational objectives;
  • Extracurricular activities – especially community and volunteering activities and demonstration of leadership.
  • Life experiences


Ongoing Eligibility

In addition to the ongoing eligibility requirements, the successful applicant/s must:

  • Maintain a minimum term GPA of 4.0
  • Maintain living at CQUniversity student residences as primary address during Term 1 and Term 2
  • Remain enrolled in the course with a minimum term study load of 12 credit points as at Census date in Term 2

Payment of Scholarship

Payment of accommodation (plus food in Rockhampton) will be made directly to the CQUniversity Student Residential College on behalf of the successful applicants. The scholarship will include:

  • Application Fee = $100 new students or $50 returning students per term
  • Facilities Levy = $295 per term
  • 15 weeks accommodation per term (Term 1 and 2 only – does not include vacation weeks)
  • Meals at Rockhampton Capricornia College only

This scholarship cannot be amended, transferred or redeemed for cash. This scholarship does not include linen or any other fees or charges issued by the Capricornia or Canefield Colleges.



Applications must include all necessary supporting documents. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will need to supply the following supporting documentation:
  • Written submission
  • Documents demonstrating academic success or unofficial transcript for current university students
  • Documents demonstrating community involvement, volunteering or demonstration of leadership
  • Resume
  • Documents demonstrating financial need. This is usually Centrelink Income Statements and/or 3 x consecutive payslips

To apply for the CQUniCares Accommodation Scholarship:

  • Complete a Scholarship Online Application Form, ensuring all supporting documentation is completed and attached as outlined here
    • For Current students (applicants who have already have a Student ID number) apply through MyCQU . You will need to log in with your student details.
    • For Future students (applicants who have applied or are intending to apply to study at CQUniversity but not yet received or accepted an offer) apply now.

    • Complete Applications must be received at the Student Scholarships Office by 5 pm AEST on the closing date. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
    Scholarships at CQUniversity are highly competitive. All applications are ranked based on the selection criteria. Being eligible or being a recipient in the past is no guarantee of having a successful application in the future. Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via their student email accounts as soon as possible after selection processes have concluded. Decisions are final.
