Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

Driven by daily workload demand at the WSU Health Sciences Spokane campus, this position regularly performs responsibilities between two separate units within the Facilities Operations Department.
Transportation Services UnitTransportation services responsibilities include customer service, Point-of-Sale (POS) activities, parking permit sales, parking regulations enforcement (assistance and ticketing), and interpretation and application of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and WSU policy. Additional duties include, motorist assistance, lot usage monitoring and reporting, and providing regular maintenance and cleaning duties in all campus parking lots. This position also coordinates activities related to event parking and assist training new employees.
Logistics | Mail | Shipping UnitIndependently perform daily operations of Logistics, Mailing, and Shipping on a complex research and academic campus comprised of multiple universities. Performs complex Logistics, Mailing, and Shipping services including operating data management systems and processing, collecting, and delivering domestic and international mail, packages, dangerous goods including hazardous material, and various goods. Interprets rules/regulations affecting operations, resolves complex customer issues, and recommends cost effective methods.


Required Qualifications:

Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.

Additional Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 21 and 5 years of driving experience and must possess proof of personal automobile insurance policy and meet the minimum driving record standard.
  • Available to work  during day, evening, weekends, and holidays as needed. 
  • Ability to physically handle, sort and deliver mail, parcels, and packages.
  • Demonstrated ability providing exceptional customer-centered service, and strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience which demonstrates ability to provide consistent high attention to detail.
  • Dangerous goods, including hazardous material, training and/or certification within 6-months of hire date.
  • Experience which demonstrates strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within a year of hire, a Forklift Certification.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience handling stressful situations and managing angry, upset, distressed, and/or hostile people.
  • Experience which demonstrates strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Experience enforcing rules and regulations in a campus Transportation and Parking system.
  • Experience using Point of Sale (POS) cash register system.
  • Experience interpreting, applying, and enforcing WAC and WSU policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in mail delivery systems, stock recordkeeping, and USPS, UPS, FedEx shipping and/or receiving.
  • Demonstrated experience with USPS, UPS, FedEx regulations, dangerous goods including hazardous material handling, shipping requirements and policies.
  • Logistics services experience, or related experience, handling procurement, storage, and transportation of goods.
  • Demonstrated experience working within an environment requiring strict adherence to confidentiality.
  • Continuous-improvement mindset; including demonstrating Lean principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
