Three Faculty Positions in Earth, Environmental, and Marine Science

The School of Earth, Environmental, and Marine Sciences (SEEMS) of the College of Sciences (COS) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for three Tenure-Track Assistant Professor positions. UTRGV is a leading Hispanic-serving institution recently promoted to R2 Carnegie research classification and with the goal to become an R1 institution. Given UTRGV’s strategic location on the Gulf of Mexico along the US-Mexico border, in close proximity of a major delta, a unique coastal lagoon, and a barrier island, this hiring initiative seeks candidates who can bring a multidisciplinary perspective to strengthen and complement SEEMS’ established expertise in ocean, coastal, earth, agriculture, environmental, and sustainability sciences. The selected finalists will establish independent research programs that successfully attract extramural funding, actively contribute to program growth, departmental development, and engage in innovative teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Posting Number FRGV1263: We seek candidates with a background in Oceanic or Ocean-Coastal Modeling who can strengthen and complement our research on physical oceanography, fisheries, or global/regional environmental change. A Ph.D. in Oceanography, Fisheries, Environmental Science, or a related field and postdoctoral experience with an emphasis on oceanic or coastal modeling are required. Posting Number FRGV1264: We seek candidates with a background in Fluvial and/or Coastal Geomorphology who utilize field, lab, and numerical tools to examine fluvial and coastal systems, and to understand landscape responses to environmental stresses and human activities including land-use change, extreme climate events, agriculture practices, and urban development. A Ph.D. in Geology, Earth Sciences, Physical Geography or a closely related field and postdoctoral experience with an emphasis on coastal/fluvial process and landform evolution are required. Posting Number FRGV1271: We seek candidates with a background in Environmental and Natural Resources Economics with emphasis on applied economics, finance and/or policy in agriculture, fisheries, natural resources, biotechnology, environment, international development, trade, and non-market valuation. A Ph.D. in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Finance, Sustainability Management, or closely related fields with specialization in environmental/ecological/natural resource economics and/or finance is required. Experience in academia/ industry/ government at any level is desired. To receive full consideration, applications should be received by December 15, 2021. Evaluations of the applicants will begin on the closing date and continue until the position is filled. These positions are planned to begin fall 2022 subject to funding availability.
