The School of Hospitality Business Management at Washington State University is seeking qualified candidates for one permanent, full-time position at the main campus in Pullman. Appointment is anticipated at the Assistant Professor rank, but candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The position is tenure-track and subject to budget approval.

Teach in face-to-face and/or distance-learning programs, maintain an active and high quality research program, maintain active industry outreach, as well as service contributions to the school, college, university, community, and profession. The normal teaching load will be 6 hours (2 courses) per semester.

General Information:

Founded in 1890 in Pullman, Washington State University is the state of Washington’s land-grant institution and one of the country’s top public research universities.  WSU has an enrollment of over 29,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and approximately 6,500 faculty and staff at its five campuses (Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities, Vancouver, and Everett), and online through its Global Campus. Unlike most multi-campus systems, WSU operates as an integrated university. Thus, all SHBM faculty regardless of campus location are full members of the SHBM department.  Also, the business curricula at all five campuses are accredited together as one curriculum by the AACSB (and AACSB accreditation was renewed for five years in 2019).

WSU is a premier research institution with ambitions to grow.  WSU is ranked as a “very high research activity” (R1) institution by the Carnegie Foundation. The university is now engaged in developing a strategic plan for the next five years as it works toward its vision, “Drive to 25,” with the goal of becoming one of the top 25 public research universities in the country by 2030.

The Carson College of Business (CCB) enrolls 2,200 undergraduate students and houses the US News and World Report 13th ranked online MBA in the country, which enrolls over 700 students.  The college has 92 full-time faculty across its campuses and 75 staff.  The CCB has invested in and executed successful growth strategies.  As a result, the CCB has run budget surpluses every year since 2013, accumulating significant reserve funds held at the college and department level.

The School of Hospitality Business Management has 11 tenure-track faculty, seven career-track faculty, supplemented by part-time adjunct faculty and doctoral students, and six staff.  The School of HBM is a multi-campus unit that includes WSU domestic campuses (Pullman, Everett, Vancouver, Tri-Cities, and Global Campus), a campus with our partner (Cesar Ritz College) in Brig, Switzerland, and the Granger Cobb Institute for Senior Living.  The program is one of the oldest in the US (since 1932) and consistently ranked as one of the top programs in the US and Internationally.  The undergraduate degree (BA in HBM) includes three majors: Hospitality Business Management, Wine & Beverage Business Management, and Senior Living Management.  At the graduate level, the SHBM offers a certificate in HBM as part of the Online MBA program as well as a PhD program in Hospitality and Tourism Management.  For 2021, WSU-SHBM was ranked 2nd nationally and 7th globally for quality and research productivity of our faculty.

See the College’s (www.business.wsu.edu ) website for more information.  WSU has a set goal to advance our commitment to diversity and multiculturalism with respect to research, teaching and community outreach, incorporating relevant programs, goals and activities.  A strong global perspective is encouraged.
