The University of Georgia (UGA) is hiring a cluster of six tenure-track faculty in Environmental Artificial Intelligence through a Presidential Faculty Hiring Initiative that will be distributed between the departments of Anthropology , Geography , Marine Sciences , and Statistics . UGA is building on core strengths in big data analyses and multi-scale modeling of earth and marine systems, paleoclimate, and human-environmental change to advance understanding ecosystem resilience and supporting climate science and sustainability.
As part of the cluster hire, the Department of Anthropology invites applications for a tenure- track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in “Deep Learning” Paleoclimatology and Dendrochronology. The position is an academic year appointment (9 months) that will start August 1, 2022.
We seek applicants specializing in tree-ring analysis in archaeology and the use of deep learning methods to reconstruct past climate signals and variations, optimization of chronological coverage along geographical and temporal dimensions, and integration of tree-ring results with other science-based dating techniques and proxy information. The successful applicant will be expected to have or establish and sustain a strong independent research program with external funding that will be recognized nationally and internationally; foster partnerships within and outside UGA; exhibit a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels; engage in supervision and mentoring of students; and, contribute to service in the department, the university, and the profession.
