Summary of Duties:

The SNAP-Ed educator will initiate, implement, and evaluate specific policy, system and environmental (PSE) change initiatives and nutrition education to promote life-long healthy eating behaviors, active engagement in exercise and sustaining food security among the limited resource populations in Okanogan County.  This work will be done primarily in schools and community settings.  Duties include teaching direct and indirect education to diverse audiences of adults and youth and continual monitoring, updating, and evaluating curriculum effectiveness.  Additional duties include partnership collaboration, program delivery, implementation, and evaluation.  This position is part of WSU’s annual contract for SNAP-Ed funded by the USDA FNS SNAP-Ed program. 
 

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with major study in specific instructional area; or equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, nutrition, or related field OR equivalent education and experience.
  • Must be able and willing to work flexible schedule. 
  •  Must have, or able to obtain, a valid driver’s license by time of hire. 
  • Must have the ability to travel. 
  • While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090). 
  •  Must have, or be able to obtain within 14 days of hire, a valid Washington State Food Worker Card
  • Employment is contingent upon successful annual WSU background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of PSE initiatives designed to support behavior change interventions. 
  • Demonstrated experience with planning, organizing, problem solving and successfully completing multiple projects with specific deadline. 
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a community based or public school setting. 
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver educational programs. 
  • Demonstrated experience or training in nutrition or food service related field. 
  • Demonstrated experience creating, facilitating and maintaining partnerships. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communication both orally and in writing. 
  • Organization skills to keep records and monitor program process and report results. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member. 
  • Experience or knowledge in using electronic communication methods and equipment for extension education and daily work activities. 
  • Experience or skills in cooking. 
  • Bilingual/bi-cultural for work with Native American and Latino youth and adults. 
  • Conversant in Spanish.
