Summary of Duties:

Assist with lab management for the Skinner lab. Help develop innovative approaches and methodologies in sample analyses. Manage day-to-day lab schedules and hourly/student personnel. Operation of specialized research equipment to serve needs of WSU research faculty. Train non-technical personnel in preparation of samples. Supervise student workers. Ordering of supplies. Implement laboratory QA/QC procedures. In addition, the incumbent operates specialized research equipment; analyzes and interprets initial equipment output; and provides training on equipment use for non-technical laboratory personnel. This position supervises and delegates responsibilities to student workers in the laboratory.


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, data processing, and web page design. 

  • Experience in interacting with professional users of the facility. 

  • Experience in operation of stable isotope ratio mass spectrometers. 

  • Experience with other environmentally-based equipment. 

  • Demonstrated Experience with database management.
