Summary of Duties:


The role of the Scholarly Associate Professor or Scholarly Professor at the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) on the Olympic College campus in Bremerton, WA includes the responsibility of the Mechanical Engineer Program Coordinator. Because of this added role, the position is a 12-month faculty position. The workload distribution is approximately 60% effort teaching and 40% service/administration, consisting of advising students and student clubs, mentoring student projects, and administration of the MME Bremerton program. Please know that teaching assignments can change over time depending on the needs of the college and university. 

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching up to 3 MME courses per semester during the academic year and 1 MME course over the summer session.

  • Coordinating with Pullman faculty to organize laboratory courses.

  • Advising undergraduate students and student clubs (which may include both OC and WSU students and the sponsoring professional society).

  • Recruiting and assigning teaching for adjunct instructors, in coordination with the School Director.

  • Working with Pullman administrator, faculty and staff to coordinate student admission, certification, and graduation.

  • Participating in and facilitating the Mechanical Engineering Program ABET accreditation review. 

  • Serving on School and college committees as needed.

  • Coordinating with the administrators, faculty, staff of the Olympic College Pre-Engineering Program.

  • Linking with area community colleges to ensure a smooth transfer of students into the undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Program.

  • Linking with local K-12 schools and regional community colleges for student recruitment.

  • Interacting with local industry and coordinating.



Required Qualifications:

  • An earned MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required.

  • Candidates must be qualified to teach a wide variety of undergraduate (junior and senior-level) lecture and laboratory courses in mechanical engineering, including Control and Mechatronics, Mechanical System Design, and Thermal and Fluid systems. Ability to teach in the first two areas is particularly important.

  • The successful candidate must have demonstrated the ability to lead a Mechanical Engineering Program.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are pre-requisites.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industrial experience is a positive consideration. 

  • Familiarity with the operation of University and Community College-based Engineering Programs is also preferred.
