Summary of Duties:

Conduct research studies on RNA binding proteins involved in mRNA localization during rice seed development.  Screen transgenic rice lines for expression of RNA binding proteins fused to GFP or RFP sequences and select lines that show maximum expression.  Prepare seed peels enriched for the outer cell layers of the endosperm from developing rice seeds.  Stabilize complexes of various RNA binding proteins to mRNAs and enrich for these complexes by immunoprecipitation followed by electrophoresis-blotting.  Process these samples for next generation DNA sequencing. 

This position is Grant Funded.


Required Qualifications:

Two (2) years experience as a laboratory technician, research aide, OR equivalent; OR a Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field of science OR technology; OR equivalent education/experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience on preparation of protein extracts and their characterization by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting.   Experience with nucleic acid modification reactions and processing.
