Summary of Duties:
The job duties of successful candidates at all levels include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical engineering; conducting funded research; publishing in top-tier venues; directing M.S. and Ph.D. student research programs; participating in the continuous teaching assessment activities of the School of EECS; effectively communicating and interacting with students; and collaborating with others within the School, the University, or other organizations including regional partners, such as the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
The new faculty hired for this position will join 37 existing tenure-track/tenured faculty members in the School of EECS, which has experienced rapid growth in enrollment over the past four years. Around the fall of 2020, approximately 1000 undergraduate students were enrolled in its B.S., and B.A. programs, and 275 graduate students are enrolled in its M.S., and Ph.D. programs in computer science, electrical engineering, and computer engineering. EECS expects continual increases in enrollment and anticipates multiple faculty hires over the next two years. The current faculty composition in the School of EECS includes a member of the National Academy of Engineering and ten fellows of national professional organizations as well as fourteen CAREER and Young Investigator award recipients.

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman, WA invites applications for multiple permanent full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty positions in Electrical Engineering at the assistant/associate/full professor level. Although all areas of electrical engineering will be considered, research emphasis will be on the following areas: power systems, power electronics, cybersecurity for power systems, and data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence applied to power.
The electric power engineering program at WSU is ranked among the top five in the nation in number of faculty, students, and research expenditure. WSU’s power program consists of twelve faculty members and four staff in EECS who specialize in teaching and research in electric power engineering. The group includes a member of the National Academy of Engineering and four fellows of IEEE. This core group is complemented by over 20 affiliated faculty members from other departments across the university together forming the multi-disciplinary research center, Energy Systems Innovation Center (ESIC) (https://esic.wsu.edu/ ). ESIC has a long tradition of close collaboration with regional power industry and is well-supported by two annual membership programs. The power program’s annual research expenditures are about $4M, with approximately 40 graduate students and five post-docs and visiting researchers. WSU power faculty collaborate closely with the power industry, many research institutions around the world, and various government organizations.
Another strength of the WSU power program is the Advanced Grid Institute (AGI) which is a joint institute between WSU and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) dedicated to modernizing the grid. AGI is envisioned to be the leader in modeling and simulation of the power grid to enable advanced controls and operations for the resilient sustainable power system of the future. WSU is also a member of the Power System Engineering Research Center (PSERC) that is a consortium of 12 leading universities and 27 industry partners, and of the Trustworthy Cyber Infrastructure for the Power Grid (TCIPG) that is a consortium of four universities and many industry partners.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for Assistant Professor must have an earned Ph.D. degree in a reputable program in electrical engineering or a related field by the time of starting the position.
Candidates for Associate Professor must have an earned Ph.D. degree in a reputable program in electrical engineering or a related field by the time of hire and have a proven record of success as an Assistant Professor or equivalent experience in a National Lab or industry.
Candidates for the full Professor must have earned Ph.D. degree in a reputable program in electrical engineering or a related field by the time of hire and have a distinguished record of research success as an Associate Professor or equivalent experience in a National Lab or industry.
Candidates at all levels:
Must already have published impactful research work and demonstrate a strong commitment to building a world-class research and training program.
Should demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a commitment to diversifying the student body.
Must additionally have strong leadership qualities commensurate with the rank, as well as exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
