The Department of Geography and the Environment, part of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in the interdisciplinary study of climate-agriculture interactions. The postdoc will join a dynamic and inclusive research group, working with Dr. Ethan Coffel of Syracuse University and Dr. Justin Mankin of Dartmouth College.
The postdoc will join an NSF-funded project investigating the impacts of warming on crops and the effects of agriculture on regional climate, using climate model simulations and distributed observations of climate and agriculture. The postdoc will have the opportunity to significantly shape the project’s research direction according to their interests. The initial appointment will be for 2 years, beginning in Fall 2022, and the postdoc will be based at Syracuse University, in Syracuse, NY.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in climate/atmospheric science, ecological or agricultural modeling, ecohydrology, or a related field and should have experience working with climate data in Python, R, or other programming languages.
We seek candidates whose research and/or lived experiences have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred skills include:
- Programming skills in Python, R, or a related language
- Experience working with climate datasets, agricultural data, and/or climate model simulations
- Strong writing and communication skills
