Summary of Duties:

The Postdoctoral Associate supports the general catalysis and sustainability research initiatives related to advanced catalyst synthesis, characterization, reaction mechanisms, and process intensification. The research will focus on waste plastic upcycling.  Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: conducting experimental research on catalyst design, development, and characterization, as well as kinetics and reaction mechanism studies; mentoring fresh graduate students and undergraduate students; collaborating with other researchers from national labs, academia, and industry on all aspects related to this project; preparing project reports timely; preparing presentations to colleagues and sponsors at professional/technical conferences; preparing manuscripts to publish in scientific journals; and assisting in writing proposals to seek future funding, as directed.

The postdoctoral appointment will initially be for one year and can be extended up to 3 years based on performance, postdoc eligibility, needs for service and available funding. The salary will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the individual.


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong background in catalysis and polymer chemistry.

  • Experience in managing several projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with in-situ/operando FTIR and/or NMR characterization

  • Strong track record of scientific productivity and journal publication.
