Post-doctoral Research Associate

Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Department of Geosciences at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee (UWM) is accepting applications for a Post-doctoral Research Associate with an annual salary of $53,000 plus benefits with an anticipated start date of January 7, 2022; this position is renewable beyond one year depending on performance and funding.  The post-doc will analyze and model experimental field data of groundwater tracers and uranium; these data were collected in the summers of 2020 and 2021 from the United States Department of Energy (US DOE) Office of Legacy Management’s former mill tailings site in Riverton, Wyoming.  The fundamental scientific question that the post-doc will address is as follows: “What are the mechanisms that control the fate and transport of uranium under field-induced groundwater to groundwater and river water to groundwater recharge events in both the vadose and saturated zones?”  For the management of the Riverton site, this research will help answer the following questions: 1) What is the natural flushing time frame? and 2) What are the most important contaminant transport mechanisms when selecting remedial strategies?

The post-doc will also be responsible for lecturing Chemical Hydrogeology during the Spring semester and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.  The post-doc will be advised by Dr. Charles Paradis at UWM and Dr. Raymond Johnson at RSI EnTech, LLC, US DOE Office of Legacy Management Support Contractor.

The post-doc will hold a Ph.D. in geology or a closely related field and have demonstrated experience in analyzing and modeling experimental field data focused on low-pressure/low-temperature groundwater geochemistry and flow; this includes, but is not limited to, experience with MODFLOW, MT3D, and PHREEQC as evident by modeling-focused publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

To apply for this position, please submit a single pdf that includes a cover letter, CV, transcripts (official or unofficial), and the contact information of three references to Dr. Paradis at [email protected] with the e-mail subject line as follows: “UWM-GeoChem-Post-doc-YourLastName”.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the position will remain open until filled.
