Summary of Duties:

The Patient Services Representative is responsible for performing specialized and technical duties in support of Cougar Health Services. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to: scheduling patient appointments, answering telephones, triaging patient calls to medical staff, registering patients, maintaining patient records, processing and preparing charge documents, submitting claims to various third party payers and state and federal agencies, obtaining prior authorizations and scheduling referral appointments, establishing eligibility, processing medical and pharmacy remittance advices, maintaining assigned insurance accounts receivables, evaluate patient financial status, and other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of general office experience or one year of office or customer service experience in a healthcare setting; OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Demonstrated experience using MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Outlook and/or Access.

  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.

  • Knowledge and use of Electronic Health Records.

  • Documented on-the-job experience in a medical clinic.

  • Experience working with or knowledge of the RCW (chapter 70.02) and the HIPAA of 1996, pertaining to the release of protected health information.
