The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry in the UCLA Division of Physical Sciences invites applications for a Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment (LPSOE) position. This appointment, which confers membership in the Academic Senate, carries a working title of "Assistant Teaching Professor", and includes the opportunity for promotion to a Lecturer with Security of Employment (LSOE) position. The LPSOE/LSOE series emphasizes excellence and innovation in teaching and other instruction-related activities. We seek candidates who can teach effectively using evidence-based approaches, engage in service activities benefiting the teaching mission of the department and university, and pursue research in the scholarship of teaching and learning in chemistry. The successful candidate will be expected to seek external funding for research and other activities that enhance instruction, thereby helping to produce the leaders needed both statewide and nationally to work in the rapidly evolving STEM fields. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to publish the results of their research in peer-reviewed sources. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in inclusive instruction of college-level courses in one or more of the following areas: general chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, and biochemistry; and a track record in and commitment to scholarly research in STEM pedagogy and educational practice.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with faculty in the department and with UCLA's multiple teaching and learning centers to implement inclusive instructional and assessment approaches that promote success of students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse levels of preparation. Responsibilities will include promoting inclusive pedagogy across the department and contributing to curriculum design.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry education, or a related field. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales. Each of the three statements can be up two pages in length and should summarize the candidate's prior accomplishments and future plans. In addition, candidates may submit up to three unpublished items documenting their accomplishments in inclusive teaching (e.g., instructional materials developed by the candidate, summaries of student evaluations, links to on-line instructional videos, etc.).
